Connecticut Health Quality CooperativeeHealthConnecticut, Inc. has launched the Connecticut Health Quality Cooperative (CHQC), the state’s first-of-its-kind initiative that brings together physicians, five health plans and other concerned health care stakeholders to improve the quality and safety of ambulatory care. The collaboration is intended to advance health care quality for Connecticut residents by providing physicians with comprehensive patient data on eight quality measures to create a complete picture of patient care.
Organizations participating in CHQC include Aetna, Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield, Bridges to Excellence, ConnectiCare, Inc., the Connecticut State Medical Society, the Connecticut State Medical Society-IPA, Health Net of Connecticut, Inc., Qualidigm and UnitedHealthcare. CHQC, using Healthcare Effectiveness Data and Information Set (HEDIS) and Medicare data, will provide Connecticut physicians in selected specialties with a comprehensive representation of the patient care that they provide.
CHQC’s focus will initially include diabetes, coronary heart disease, childhood respiratory infections, and several preventive measures. Combining data from health plans and Medicare will help physicians identify opportunities for coordinating patient care and improving quality in their practices. Medical specialties include Pediatrics, Internal Medicine, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Endocrinology, Cardiology and Family Practice. For more information, go to www.CTCHQC.org
Qualidigm, Connecticut’s health care Quality Improvement Organization (QIO) is responsible for providing Medicare fee-for-service claims data, as allowed by the QIO contract with the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. Qualidigm’s role is to manage the project and coordinate the submission, integration and aggregation of the health plan and Medicare data files. Aggregating Medicare and HEDIS data, Qualidigm provided analysis of the aggregated data, and produced the performance reports.
