Spotlight on Connectiut’s STAR Nursing Homes

Nearly 43% of Connecticut’s nursing homes are looking at their quality measures on the national website supported by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS).  The Setting Targets – Achieving Results (STAR) website is designed to help Connecticut nursing homes set and track clinical improvement goals.

Because literature has shown that nursing homes that set quality improvement targets are more likely to succeed in their quality improvement efforts, we are pleased that so many homes have committed to STAR.

Homes participating in STAR will realize benefits of target setting.  These benefits may include:

  • Increased awareness of the importance of specific clinical topics
  • Focused efforts to meet these targets
  • Improved care provided to the residents
  • Progress tracking and trending over time
  • Information to help better allocate resources
  • Better quality measure scores on Nursing Home Compare

New this year, homes enrolled in the STAR program have the opportunity to be recognized as leaders in quality improvement through the Qualidigm website.
